Enter or amend machine resources
Note: The View Machine Resource option allows you to see the entries for the machine resource records but not amend them.
Important! If you are using the full Manufacturing product, some information that you enter for the machine resource must be the same as the information you entered for the Cost Headings.
In order to be compatible for use with all Manufacturing modules, you must make sure:
- The machine resource Nominal Code is the same as the one specified for the cost heading.
- The machine resource Overhead Nominal Code is the same as the one specified for the cost heading.
- The machine resource Overhead Recovery % value is the same as the one specified for the cost heading.
Note: If you select Perform Compatibility Checks on the Environment tab in System Settings and you choose differently, you will receive a warning prompt when you save a machine resource.
- Set up machine resource groups.
To enter or amend machine resources
Open: Manufacturing System Manager > Machine Register > Records > New Machine Resource.
Open: Manufacturing System Manager > Machine Register > Records > Amend Machine Resource.
- Enter a new reference or select an existing reference from the Reference drop-down list.
- Enter or amend the Description.

Enter or amend the machine resource details.
Group
Select the machine resource group.
Note: The Group must already have been set up.
Cost Heading
Select the cost heading for the resource.
Note: You cannot select a cost heading that has type Materials.
Cost Rate Enter the rate used by default when adding the machine resource to BOM A stock assembly and process costing system, which provides facilities to specify the structure of finished items in terms of sub-assemblies and components.s or estimates Forecast project costs, based on expected costs of labour, machinery and operation times. In Manufacturing, estimates are produced for one-off items or non-repetitive batches. operations The labour, machine and tool processes required to manufacture an item.. The cost rate is per hour.
If you know the cost rate for a particular time unit but not per hour, you can click to display the Enter Cost Rate window.
- Select the Time Unit.
- Enter the Cost Rate for Unit.
- Click OK.
The Hourly Cost Rate is calculated automatically.
The Hourly Cost Rate is inserted into the Cost Rate box.
Note: You can add time units, using the Time Units tab.
Allow Cost Rate Override
Select Allow Cost Rate Override if you want to override the machine resource cost rate in the BOM operation record or in the Operations Register.
Location
Enter the location of the machine. Dimensions
Enter the dimensions of the machine. O/Head Recovery %
The default value shown when you add the machine resource group is set in Cost Headings.
You can amend it as required.
Note: Important! If you are using the full Manufacturing product, this value must be the same as that on the cost heading.
Efficiency %
Enter a percentage value that over or under inflates the efficiency of the machine resource for costing purposes.
The default value is from the machine resource group. You can amend it here.
Nominal Code
The nominal code the resource is charged to. This defaults to the code for the group. Select another code if required.

Overhead Nominal Code
The nominal code the overheads of using the resource are charged to. This defaults to the code for the group. Select another code if required.
Note: Important! If you are using the full Manufacturing product, this code must be the same as that on the cost heading.
Enter the machine maintenance details for reference purposes. Full Service Hours
Enter the number of hours the machine can operate before it requires a full service.
Ordinary Service Hours
Enter the number of hours the machine can operate before it requires an ordinary service.
Service Interval
Enter the number and unit used to calculate when the next service is due.
For example, enter 7 and select Days from the drop-down list. The next service date is calculated, using these entries when the machine is added to an activity.
Calibration Interval
Enter the number and unit used to calculate when the next calibration The process of testing and measuring a machine's actual response against its expected response. is due.
For example, enter 3 and select Hours from the drop-down list. The next calibration date is calculated, using these entries, when the machine is added to activity.
Enter the machine manufacturer's details for reference purposes. Source Calibration
Enter the manufacturer's quality assurance details issued when you purchased the machine.
Original Certificate
Enter the manufacturer's quality assurance details issued when you purchased the machine.
Serial Number
Enter the manufacturer's quality assurance details issued when you purchased the machine.
Range
Enter the manufacturer's quality assurance details issued when you purchased the machine.
Type
Enter the manufacturer's quality assurance details issued when you purchased the machine.
Note: Use these boxes to store the manufacturer's quality assurance details. These are issued when you purchased the machine. Range refers to the sizes of a material the machine can operate on.

Enter or amend the notes.
- Select the Notes tab.
- Amend existing notes or add new notes about the machine resource.

Enter or amend the activities.
- Select the Activity tab.
- Add, amend or delete activities.
- To add an activity, click Add or click in a new line in the Activity Type column.
- Calibration.
- Service.
- Repair.
- To amend an activity, click in an existing line and make the changes required.
- To delete an activity, click in an existing line and click Delete.
Enter the following details for the activity.
Activity Type
Select the type from the drop-down list.
This Activity Date
Select the date on which you want the activity to take place.
Reference
Enter a reference for the activity, e.g. the name or ID of the operator who performed the activity. Result
Enter a result for the activity. For example, Successfully calibrated, or Permanent repair.
Note: You cannot sort on the Result column.
Notes
Enter any notes, describing the activity. For example, any additional tasks needed to be done to achieve a successful calibration.
Note: You cannot sort on the Notes column.
Next Activity Date
This date is calculated automatically for calibration and service activities from the Calibration Interval and Service Interval entries on the Details tab.

Enter or amend the attachments.
Use the Attachments tab to link files to machine resources.
Add a fileTo add a file to the account or record:
- Click Add File.

Select the file(s) that you want to add.
A copy of the file will be displayed in the list, and will be marked with a status of New. The file will only be added to the account or record when you save it.
Tip: You can also drag-and-drop files from Windows Explorer to add files to the attachments list.
Add a link to a fileTo add a link to a file:
- Click Add Link.

Select the file(s) that you want to add a link to.
A link to the file will be displayed in the list, and will be marked with a status of New. The link will only be added to the account or record when you save it.
Tip: You can also drag-and-drop files from Windows Explorer to add links to the attachments list; hold down the Alt key to create a link (instead of adding the file).
Add a link to a folderTo add a link to a folder:
- Click Add Folder.

Select the folder(s) that you want to add a link to.
A link to the folder will be displayed in the list, and will be marked with a status of New. The link will only be added to the account or record when you save it.
Tip: You can also drag-and-drop folders from Windows Explorer to add folder links to the attachments list.
View or save a file, link or folderTo view the file, link or folder from the account record:
- Select the item.
- Click View.
- If you are viewing a file or link, you can either view or save it.
- To view the file, click View.
To save a copy of the file, click Save As.
Note: To modify an attached file; save the file and edit it, and then add it as a file again (you will be asked to overwrite the old file). To modify a linked file, you just need to edit and save the file in its original location.
Delete a file, link or folderNote: If you delete a file, the file will be removed from the server. If you delete a link or a folder, only the link will be removed and the file or folder that is linked to will remain intact.
To delete a file, link or folder:
- Select the item to delete.
- Click Delete.

The item will be marked with a status of Deleted.
Tip: If you do not want to delete an item, select it and click Undelete.

You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the item when you save the account or record.
Set a description for a file, link or folderYou can enter a description for an item in the attachments list:
- Select the item.
- Click Set description.

Enter the description for the item and click OK.
The description will be displayed in the Description column.

If the resource cost is calculated using time units, add or amend the time units.
Note: Time units for the resource default to the units set for the resource group.
- Select the Time Units tab.
- To add time units, click Add and select the time unit Name from the drop-down list.
- To delete time units, select the time unit Name and click Delete.
The default time unit, Hour, is shown.
Note: Time units must have been set up in the Time Units settings.
Note: The time unit, Hour, cannot be deleted.
- Click Save.
If you are using all Manufacturing modules, have selected Perform Compatibility Checks in System Settings Environment tab and have compatibility issues, the Compatibility Warnings prompt appears.
