About Bill of Materials

The Bill of Materials module provides a combined stock assembly and process costing function.

It is directly integrated with the Stock Control and Nominal Ledger modules.

You can use the Bill of Materials module on its own or as part of a group of Manufacturing modules, which includes Estimating, Planning, Works Orders and Operation Times modules. You will also use a Manufacturing System Manager module with Bill of Materials or Manufacturing.

Note:

Some of the information you can enter and use in the Bill of Materials module cannot be used in the Estimating, Planning and Works Orders modules. If you are using Manufacturing modules, there are guidelines to follow for setting up resources and operations so that these can be used in all Manufacturing modules.

In addition, the apostrophe (') and quotation (") characters can be used in the Bill of Materials module but not in the other Manufacturing modules.

You can specify finished items in terms of sub-assemblies and components Raw materials used to manufacture finished goods.. If process costs are involved in sub-assemblies, these can be entered against a BOM A stock assembly and process costing system, which provides facilities to specify the structure of finished items in terms of sub-assemblies and components. (bill of materials).

If you are manufacturing in repetitive batches, production is based around the BOM.

If you are working in a one-off jobbing environment use the Estimating module.

Note: If you are not using Manufacturing, you will only be able to use the Bill of Materials module for production.
