Edit a target for a feature

You can edit an existing feature target A target is the action associated with a feature. Each feature must have a target in order to do something. For example, a target could be to open a form (window), produce a report, run any OS Invocable (any application or process you can access through the Run option in the Microsoft Windows Start menu), open a workspace (an area on your desktop which can contain several panels of information from Sage 200 modules), or open a content part (an area of a workspace). All features installed with Sage 200 and with any add-on packages have targets added automatically. that you have added.

The target can be set to display that feature for the Sage 200 desktop or Web Portal, or for both.

  • If the feature target only has a Target Action set and does not have the Target Web URL set, the feature is only available in the Sage 200 desktop.

  • If the feature target only has a Target Web URL set and does not have the Target Action set, the feature is only available in the Web Portal.

  • If the feature target has both the Target Action and Target Web URL set, the feature is available in both the Sage 200 desktop and Web Portal.

Edit a target

Open: System Administration > Features

  1. Select the feature group, then select the feature.

  2. Select the Targets tab in Feature Properties, then select the target and select Properties.

    You can amend any of the properties.

  3. Set the Target Name.

    Use a name that helps you identify the target action.

  4. Set the Target Type and Target Action.

    The details that you need to enter will depend on the Target Type.

    Note: If the form (page) is only available in the Web Portal and not the Sage 200 desktop, you don't need to set a target action. You must set the Web Portal page in the Target Web URL

    Use this target type to display a form in the Sage 200 desktop or a page in the Web Portal.

    You can display your own custom form, or an existing Sage Sage 200 form.

    • Enter the name of the Sage 200 desktop form in the Target Action, or select the browse button (...) to select it.

      • If the form (page) is only available in the Web Portal and not the Sage 200 desktop, you can leave the Target Action blank. You must set the Web Portal page in the Target Web URL.

      • If the form is available in both the Sage 200 desktop and Web Portal, then you must set both the Target Action and the Target Web URL.

    • To select a custom form:

      1. Select Custom Assembly.

      2. Click the browse (...) button to select an assembly.

        Select the form that you want from the list of forms displayed.

    • To select a Sage 200 form:

      1. Select Sage 200 Assemblies.

      2. If the Sage 200 forms are available locally on your PC:

        • Select Look In.

        • The Sage 200 application folder will be displayed by default.

          You can select the browse button (...) to choose a different folder that contains the form.

      3. If the Sage 200 forms are available on the server, select Global Assembly Cache.

      4. Select the assembly from the List of Assemblies. The forms contained in that assembly will be displayed.

        For example, if you are looking for a Sales Ledger form, this will be in the assembly that begins, Sage.MMS.SalesLedger.

      5. Select the form that you want to link to this target, then choose Select.

        Tip: You can filter the list of forms by typing part of its name in Filter - Name.

    Use this target type to display a list view.

    You can display your own custom list, or an existing Sage Sage 200 list.

    Note: This target type used to be named Desktop List before Sage 200 Professional 2023 R2.

    The steps for adding a list are the same as adding a form:

    • Enter the name of the Sage 200 desktop list in the Target Action, or select the browse button (...) to select it.

      • If the list (page) is only available in the Web Portal and not the Sage 200 desktop, you can leave the Target Action blank. You must set the Web Portal page in the Target Web URL.

      • If the list is available in both the Sage 200 desktop and Web Portal, then you must set both the Target Action and the Target Web URL.

    • To select a custom form:

      1. Select Custom Assembly.

      2. Click the browse (...) button to select an assembly.

        Select the form that you want from the list of forms displayed.

    • To select a Sage 200 form:

      1. Select Sage 200 Assemblies.

      2. If the Sage 200 forms are available locally on your PC:

        • Select Look In.

        • The Sage 200 application folder will be displayed by default.

          You can select the browse button (...) to choose a different folder that contains the form.

      3. If the Sage 200 forms are available on the server, select Global Assembly Cache.

      4. Select the assembly from the List of Assemblies. The forms contained in that assembly will be displayed.

        For example, if you are looking for a Sales Ledger form, this will be in the assembly that begins, Sage.MMS.SalesLedger.

      5. Select the form that you want to link to this target, then choose Select.

        Tip: You can filter the list of forms by typing part of its name in Filter - Name.

    Use this target type to produce a report (from Report Designer).

    • If you know the report name, enter the report name as the Target Action.
    • If you don't know the report name, click the browse (...) button to select the form from c:\sage\reporting.

    Note: Standard reports are listed by module within the default folder. Any custom reports added using Sage Report Designer should have been added to the custom folder or to the company specific folder.

    Use this target type for anything that you can open (invoke) by using the Run option in the Microsoft Windows Start menu.

    For example, you can run an executable program, open an internet address, or open a folder on the Sage 200 server.

    • If you can run the application or process, enter its name or address in the Target Action; e.g. Notepad.exe.

    • Alternatively, select the browse button (...) to choose an executable (*.exe) file or a folder and select Open.

    Note: If you choose a target on your local computer, that target will also need to be available on each computer where you will run this target. If the target is not going to be available on each local computer, you need to specify the UNC Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format specifies the location of resources on the network. The computer name is prefaced by two backslashes \\ whilst directories are prefaced by one \. path to the computer where the target is located.

    • If you know the location and name, enter these in the Target Action.

    • Alternatively, select the browse button (...) to select the workspace location.

    Note: If you choose a target on your local computer, that target will also need to be available on each computer where you will run this target. If the target is not going to be available on each local computer, you need to specify the UNC Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format specifies the location of resources on the network. The computer name is prefaced by two backslashes \\ whilst directories are prefaced by one \. path to the computer where the target is located.

    Use this target type to make a call to a service in Sage 200.

    • Enter the service call in the Target Action.

      For example:

      |SystemAdminClient/ConnectCompany

      or

      |AOMService/GetAddOn

    Use this target type to call a web action for the Self Service web app.

    • Enter the action in the Target Action.

      For example:

      WTE/AuthoriseExpenses

      or

      Spooler/ViewReport

    Note: The Web (Self Service) target type is only used for the Self Service web app and not the Web Portal app. If you want to open a Web Portal page, use the Form target type and specify the Target Web URL.

    Note: This target type used to be named Web before Sage 200 Professional 2023 R2.

    You will not typically use either the Directory Read or Directory Write target types, which are used to support certain Sage 200 features.

  5. The Target GUID uniquely identifies the target to the feature.

    Note: The Target GUID is not related to the feature GUID.

  6. Enter a Target Description for information about the target.

  7. Select the Target Launcher, if your Target Type is Form (for the Sage 200 desktop only).

    The target launcher A program which is used to open the form (window) identified by the target. is responsible for opening the form.

    • If you're using a supplied launcher, select the Target Launcher from the list.

      The default launcher is Sage.MMS.Launcher.Stub.

    • If you have written your own launcher, you can enter it here.

    If the form (page) is only available in the Web Portal and not the Sage 200 desktop, you can leave the Target Launcher blank.

  8. Enter a Target Web URL for forms (pages) or lists that are displayed in the Web Portal.

    • The URL is the path to the Web Portal page, for example sales/view-customer.

    • The URL can only contain lower case characters, single hyphens (-), and single forward slashes (/).

    • For customised pages, the URL must start with extensions/ and this will be added if it is missing.

    This feature is only available from Sage 200 Professional 2023 R2 version onwards.

  9. Click Save to confirm the target entries.
