Confirming build (BOM)
Note: If you have not reserved specific stock components by allocating stock, use the Build routine to allocate and build immediately.
Use Confirm Build to build or partially build, the finished items that you have already allocated.
Once stock has been built, you cannot reverse this. However, you can undo allocations to free the stock items.
- Component stock is reduced by the build quantity.
- Allocated stock is reduced by the build quantity.
- Assembly stock is increased by the build quantity.
- If Stock Control is set to produce nominal transactions, these are calculated based on the costing method of the components and the approach to overheads specified on the finished item BOMs.
- Any adjustments for rounding discrepancies are posted to the stock issues nominal account. This is the nominal account nominated on the stock record linked to the first BOM involved in the build.
- Operational and subcontract costs are also posted.
To ensure you can build successfully, you must check that:
- If required, components are set to allow negative stock levels.
- Allocations are designed to produce negative stock levels for components if components are set to allow negative stock levels.
- You have sufficient stock for sub-assemblies if the original allocation specified only completed sub-assemblies should be used.
To build from allocation
Open: Bill of Materials > Processing > Confirm Build.
-
Select the Allocation No from the drop-down list.
The Allocation Reference and Date are displayed automatically.
The Build Details area of the window lists the BOMs that have been allocated and are waiting to be built.
- To view a list of the components in the allocation and the settings used when the allocation was created, click View Allocation.
-
Enter the Build Details.
- The Build Date is associated with stock and nominal postings. It defaults to today's date but you can choose another date if required.
- Enter a Build Reference.
- For each Stock Code item:
-
If you are using version control, confirm the version that is to be built.
Note: You can only build the current active version.
- If you are using multiple locations, select the Warehouse and Bin locations.
-
Enter the Qty to Build.
Note: You cannot increase the quantity of a finished item above the outstanding quantity for the item on the allocation. You can build less and either undo the allocation for the remainder or come back and complete the build later.
The quantities will include the scrap percentage if you have selected to calculate scrap in Build or Allocation on the BOM Settings Scrap tab.
-
To print the build report, select Print Build Report.
Note: This defaults to what you have set in the Build tab on BOM Settings.
The report shows:
- The items built and their costs.
- The items used.
-
The costs posted to the Nominal Ledger.
The nominal accounts the costs have been posted to.
- Click OK.
-
If your built item is traceable
The Confirm Traceable Built Item Details window appears. The window is used to assign batch or serial numbers to built items.
- Select a Stock Code in the Finished traceable items list.
-
Enter the traceable numbers:
- If the item is batch traceable, enter the Batch No and a Quantity.
- If the item is serial traceable, enter the Serial No.
Note: You must enter the Quantity required.
- Click OK.
-
If your components are traceable
The Select Traceable Components For Build window appears. The window is used to assign batch or serial numbers to components used in building the BOMs.
Note:The Select Traceable Components For Build window appears if you have selected the following in the Stock Control settings Options tab:
- Numbers selected when allocating stock and you are building only part of the allocation.
- Numbers selected when despatching stock.
You must choose which of the numbers from the full allocation you will be using for the part build.
Numbers have not been assigned before and all numbers must be chosen now.
- Select the batch or serial item Stock Code that you want to choose the numbers for.
- Click Edit.
-
If the item is batch traceable
- Select the check box next to the Batch no you want to build from.
- Enter the Qty to Allocate.
- Repeat until the Batch quantities selected value matches the Total quantity value.
- Click OK.
Note: You can build quantities from different batches unless the item is a single batch item. If it is then you must build the Total quantity from one batch.
If the item is serial traceable- Select the check box alongside each Serial No that you want to use in the build.
- Click OK.
Note: The number of Serial numbers selected must match the Total Quantity.
- Click Close.
-
If your built item is traceable with full component traceability
Note: Full component traceability is chosen by selecting the Component association required box on the BOM record Details tab.
The Confirm Component Association window appears. The window is used to match the traceable components to the traceable built items.
- Select the Stock Code/Identification No. in the Traceable Assemblies and Components list.

- Click OK.
-
If Print Build Report was selected, the Build Report appears.
- Click Close to complete the Confirm Build process.
