Open: Stock Control > Stock Records > Amend Stock Item

  • Use the Units of Measure tab if you buy or sell the stock item in additional trade units to the stock unit.
Note:
  • The Units of Measure tab is only displayed if the product group for the stock item is set to use multiple units of measure.

  • The Units of Measure tab is not displayed for a phantom item assembled using a bill of materials (BOM).

Set units of measure for the stock item

Open: Stock Control > Stock Records > New Stock Item.

  1. Select the Units of Measure tab.
  2. Enter the Unit Settings.

    1. Select the Base unit of measure that you want to use. The base unit is used to link the stock unit to the sales and purchase units.

    2. If the Base unit is different to the Stock unit, check the Stock/base ratio displayed and change the value if required.

  3. To add a trade unit of measure for sales and purchases:

    1. Select Add in the Sales And Purchase Units section.

    2. Select the Unit name for the unit of measure.

    3. Check the Conversion ratio and change it if required.

      • Set the number of base items that make up the unit you've selected.

      • Set the required Precision. The precision value sets the smallest value of a unit that can be processed.

You'll see warnings if there are any potential problems with your precision values. See Validate units of measure precision.

    4. Select the Price basis used for this unit as either Multiple of the stock unit or Specific price for this unit.

For example, if the price of a 10 pack is different to the price of 10 individual items, use Specific price for this unit. If the price of a 10 pack is the same as the price of 10 separate items, then use Multiple of the stock unit.

    5. Select Save to save the unit.

About units of measure

Use this if you need additional trade units for the stock item, such as buying or selling in different units to the stock unit.

The settings on this tab are inherited from the product group Units of Measure settings (in the Sage 200 desktop). You can override some settings for each stock item here.

Note: If you set multiple units of measure on the stock item's product group, stock items in that group can't use serial numbers or value based landed costs.

Selling quantities, selling prices, buying quantities and buying prices are all set in the product group.

See Units of measure overview.
