Automatically generate quantity breaks

Automatic generation means that you can add a number of quantity breaks at once.

For example, if you enter a start of 1 and proceed with intervals of 10, you will get quantity breaks of: 1 - 10, 11 - 20, 21 - 30, and so on.

Note:

Do not use automatic generation if you are including decimal values in the quantity breaks. There is a limitation on using decimals with the automatic generator due to conflicts that arise from precision.

If you are using decimal values, it is not possible to determine the precision to use. For example:

1 to 1.99999

2 to 2.99999

or

1 to 2

2.00001 to 3

3.00001 to 4

or

1 to 2

3 to 4

5 to 6

There could potentially be gaps, meaning that certain values would not be covered in your quantity breaks.

If you want to generate three quantity breaks automatically, which start from 5.5 and have an interval of 2, the automatically generated values are:

Values between 6.50001 and 7.49999 and 8.50001 and 9.49999 are not covered.

For this reason, we recommend you do not use the automatic generator for decimal values.

You can increase or decrease the quantity break cost if the cost per item increases or decreases as you increase the quantity that you manufacture. There are two ways of increasing costs and two ways of decreasing costs. This depends on whether or not you are entering cost per batch (Rate Per Item is not selected) or per item (Rate Per Item is selected).

To generate quantity breaks automatically

Open: Manufacturing System Manager > Operations Register > Records > New Operation | Subcontract.

Open: Manufacturing System Manager > Operations Register > Records > Amend Operation | Subcontract.

  1. Select a Supplier in the Suppliers list.

    2. Any existing quantity breaks for the supplier are displayed.

  2. Click Auto Generate.
  3. Enter the Auto Generate Details.

    4. Start From

    Enter the start quantity.

    Intervals Of

    Enter the intervals for the quantity breaks.

    Number of Entries

    Enter the number of quantity breaks to generate.
  4. Enter the Defaults:

    5. Default Cost

    Enter the default cost of the items in the first quantity break.

    Intervals Of

    Enter a value to increase or decrease the default cost of the items for subsequent quantity breaks.

    Note: If you enter a negative value, costs will decrease unless you select Rate Per Item, in which case they will increase. If you enter a positive value, costs will increase unless you select Rate Per Item, in which case they will decrease.

    Default Hours Offsite

    Enter the default number of hours items are spent offsite for the first quantity break.

    Intervals Of

    Enter a positive value to increase or a negative value to decrease the default number of hours offsite for subsequent quantity breaks.

    Rate Per Item

    Select this check box to set the cost per individual item in the quantity break.

    Note: Costs will increase across quantity breaks if you enter a negative value in the Intervals Of box. Costs will decrease across quantity breaks if you enter a positive value in Intervals Of.

    Leave this check box clear if the cost is for a batch of any quantity in the band.

    Note: Costs will increase across quantity breaks if you enter a positive value in Intervals Of. Costs will decrease across quantity breaks if you enter a negative value in Intervals Of.
  5. Click OK.

    6. The quantity breaks are automatically generated and shown on the Subcontract tab.
