Update stock item descriptions (BOM)
When you create a BOM for a stock item, the BOM Reference and Description are automatically set to use the stock item Code and Name respectively.
When you add stock items as components on the Components tab of the BOM record, you can change the stock item Name, but this change applies only on the BOM record.
You can change a stock item Name in Stock Control:
- After you have created a BOM for the item.
- After you have added the stock item as a component to a BOM record.
In both cases, the BOM Description, and the stock item Name on the BOM record Components tab, are not updated automatically.
You can use this option to update the names held on the BOM record to match those in the Stock Control module. The stock item names on the Components tab are changed automatically to match those in Stock Control. You can choose whether to update the BOM record Description with the Name held for the stock record in Stock Control.
Note: Whilst this option is in use, you and other Sage 200 users cannot make any other changes to BOM records or BOM settings.
Names held on the BOM record are updated to match those in the Stock Control module.
To update stock item descriptions
Open: Bill of Materials > Utilities > Maintenance > Update Stock Item Descriptions.

Select whether to update a Single Stock Item or All Stock Items.
- If you select Single Stock Item, select the stock item that you want to update from the drop-down list.

By default, Update BOM Record Description is selected. The BOM descriptions will be refreshed with the stock item names.
Clear the check box if you only want to refresh the names on the BOM record Components tab, and not the BOM Description.
- Click OK.
