Operations (BOM record)

Add operations

Open: Bill of Materials > Records > New Bill of Materials | Operations.

  1. Add operations in one of the following ways:
  2. Irrespective of how you add operations, you may want to change the operation details. To change operation details, select the operation and click Edit (or you can double-click on the operation line).

    The Operation Record window appears.

Note: Important! If the BOM has been created by converting a one-off works order, an operation is listed in the BOM record as a result of the conversion. Do not rename this operation. If you do, you will not be able to update information between the Bill of Materials and the Works Order.

  3. Add or edit comment lines.

  4. Add or edit document links.

  5. To delete a line, select the line, click Delete Line and confirm that you want to do so at the prompt.

  6. To continue entering BOM information, click the Notes tab.

  7. To save your BOM details, click Save.

Note: If you are using all Manufacturing modules, you have selected Perform Compatibility Checks in Manufacturing System Manager system settings Environment tab and you have compatibility issues, the Compatibility Warnings prompt appears.

Resequence operations

You can resequence the items in the operations list to make the Sequence numbers follow a regular interval. For example, if your items in the operations list have sequence numbers 1, 4, 6, you might resequence them to use 0, 5, 10.

You can set the start number and the interval between the operation numbers in the in BOM settings Resequencing tab. See Resequencing (BOM settings).

  1. Select Resequence.

  2. The Sequence number of items in the list will be adjusted according to the settings BOM settings Resequencing tab:

    • The number of the first item will use the Starting at number.

    • The numbers of the remaining items will be spaced out at the specified interval.

    • If the BOM setting Resequence in stock reference order is enabled, the order of items in the list will also be changed so that comments are grouped at the top of the list, followed by documents, followed by the operations in order of their reference.

If this setting is not enabled, the order of items in the list will not be changed.

Change the order of operations

To change the order of items in the operations list, you can manually change the Sequence number of the items.

For example, to move an item with number 15 in between item numbers 5 and 10, you could change its sequence number to 7.

Note: Changing the sequence number will not automatically refresh the order of items in the operations list. But when you save the BOM and open it again, items in the list will be displayed in the correct order. Do not use Resequence if you want to refresh the list.

If you also want to Resequence the operations list to adjust the intervals of the numbers, you must first save the BOM to keep your changes. After you've saved the changes, reopen the BOM before you use Resequence.
