Automating the MRP process

Note: You can only automate MRP if Enforce logon has not been selected in System Administration.

Using the Windows Scheduled Tasks option, you can schedule MRP Materials Requirements Planning (MRP). MRP recommends purchase orders, transfers and work orders to balance supply and demand. to run automatically at a given time.

Note: Demands must be read in MPS Master Production Schedule (MPS). The planning of production (usually end item production), to satisfy current and forecast sales orders. The sum of MPS items must equal the agreed sales and operations plan for the items over each planning period. Planning periods are normally a month or a four week period. Items planned within MPS are exploded by MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) to produce the material and capacity requirements. before running automated MRP. There is no automated process for this at present.

To automate the MRP process

Copy the command line with the company logon details

Open: Planning > MRP > Processing > Run MRP.

  1. In the Run MRP window, click here at the foot of the window for information on automating the process.
  2. In the Automated MRP Run window, click here to copy the command line for the current company to the clipboard.
  3. Note: This is the second here in the Automated MRP Run window. Clicking on the first here will provide a list of command line options for your reference. This is not required in order to automate the MRP process.

  4. To close the Automated MRP Run window, click Close.

Create a batch (.bat) file

Open: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.

  1. Create a new file and paste the command line.
  2. Save the file as a batch (.bat) file.
    • Select File > Save.
    • Enter a File name, such as AutoMRP.bat.
    • Select the Save as type, All Files.
    • Click Save.

Set up a Windows schedule task

  • Set up a Windows scheduled task to run the file at the desired time. For more information refer to your Windows documentation.
