How to

Put sales orders on hold

You can put sales orders on hold, if you want to stop the orders being processed or printed. You can only put Live sales orders on hold, so you can't change the status of orders that are already Complete.

If an item in the sales order uses the From Supplier Via Stock or Direct To Customer fulfilment method, this affects the related purchase order. If you have not already processed the related purchase order, when you put the sales order on hold you will not be able to generate a related purchase order for the goods.

Open: Sales Order Processing > Sales Orders > Amend Order Status

  1. Select the sales orders.

  2. Select On Hold to put the sales orders on hold.

The order status will change from Live to On hold.

Take sales orders off hold

You can take sales orders off hold if you have previously put the orders on hold, but you now want to continue to process the orders.

Open: Sales Order Processing > Sales Orders > Amend Order Status

  1. Select the sales orders.

  2. Select Off Hold to take the orders off hold.

The order status will change from On hold to Live.

Cancel a sales order

To cancel a sales order, amend the order using Amend Sales Order, then select Cancel Order.

See Cancel a sales order.

Useful info

What does the sales order status mean?

Sales orders have one of these statuses, shown as the Order status or the Document status:

  • Live: The order has been generated and is in the process of being fulfilled. Some invoices still need to be posted for the order.

  • Completed: The order has been fully despatched and invoiced, or has been cancelled. Invoices have been posted for the order, and the customer and nominal account balances have been updated.

  • On hold: The order has been put on hold to stop any further processing of the order.

For example, the order has been queried because the customer has exceeded their credit limit.
